Artist Statement:
The landscape is a constant source of inspiration for me. I prefer to paint on location because I am profoundly influenced by the outdoor experience. The sounds, scents, weather, and changeable light encountered first-hand in nature all have roles to play in the creation of one of my paintings.
Even when working in the studio, reference materials that I have gathered in the field are primary sources of remembrance and feeling that translate into my art.

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I have always loved creating..since my earliest mural painting on my bedroom walls. Unfortunately my mother didn't approve!I love conveying my feelings through paint and canvas.I feel that we are in such a hurry these days that we fail to relax and enjoy the beauty that is there under our noses. I hope to bring a passion for beauty and life through my work. |

| Your Personal Biography |
“ Being outdoors as a part of the landscape while painting feeds my soul and gives my work a quality that can’t be obtained any other way.”
Amy rediscovered painting over ten years ago when she and her family moved to Denver, CO. She enrolled in a watercolor class at the Art Students League and has been painting ever since.
In Colorado, Amy began painting the landscape and found that “plein air” painting was her passion. It combined her love of the outdoors with her love of painting.
Returning to her family’s roots in North Carolina, Amy began painting in oils again and began exploring painting “interior scapes” or still life when the weather was unfavorable for painting outdoors.
Now making her primary home in Colorado, Amy continues her passion for painting from life, whether it is in the Rockies or the Blue Ridge mountains.
Amy holds a B.A. with Distinction in Art from Rhodes College, Memphis, TN. She has also
studied at the Art Students League of Denver, CO. and the former Taos Institute of Art, Taos, NM. Amy has studied with Carl Dalio, Doug Dawson, L. Diane Johnson, Frank Lalumia, Fran Larson, Kevin MacPherson, Kathryn Stats, Anita West, Teresa Vito, and Barbara Zaring.
She has been an art instructor for middle and high school students as well as adults.
Amy’s paintings have been in exhibits and galleries in Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, North Carolina, New Mexico, and Virginia. Her work is also in private and corporate collections throughout the United States. One of her paintings has recently been chosen for the annual Breckenridge Music Festival Poster.
She is a juried associate member of Oil Painters of America, 2nd Vice President/Show Chair of Women Artists of the West, a signature member of Plein Air Artists of Colorado, a member of the American Impressionist Society, and a charter and founding member of the Piedmont Outdoor Painting Society, based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. |
