Artist Statement:
Jakob Anckarsvärd’s work is richly influenced by psychology and existentialism as a product of work and volunteer experience, in addition to academic studies. The references to art history and theory are often present even though the expression and language used have a grounded and humanist approach.
Anckarsvärd works mainly with painting, installation and artist’s books which all complement each other as materials and processes. The expressions vary quite a bit and the work is performed in a swift style, however all gestures and unconventional materials are given extensive consideration.
Anckarsvärd is not anxious of working in neither sombre colours nor dark subject matters, though continuously working towards optimistic solutions.
This form is vital in the artwork, and integrated in his general practice. In order to move forwards it’s necessary to truly challenge yourself, which sometimes means breaking conventions and rules. Although Anckarsvärd’s art is in constant change and evolvement, he believes in long term work in order to turn private fascinations into profound outcome.
