Artist Statement:
Kirah is an award-winning illustrator and painter who has combined her art and scientific background as a specialist in medical and biological illustration. She currently works as the creative director of Animania, LLC, providing illustration for education, promotion, and commissioned fine art. Her various use of painting mediums and subject matter is an outgrowth of her interest in natural science and a love for travel. Works include exploration in urban landscape and environmental issues and are strongly rooted in color and composition. Her works are not only in private collections but have been published in several Biology and Zoology textbooks and professional journals.
Kirah's educational background includes undergraduate science and art degrees from Duke University, art study at the North Carolina State School of Design and a master's degree in Medical Illustration from the Medical College of Georgia. Her fine art is in an array of private collections throughout the United States and Europe.

1. A week-long intensive workshop in Mexico that helped break down creative blocks. I was able to tap into imagery from my childhood, dreams, and unconsciious that has helped me to find my artistic voice, and overcome fear of artistic experimentation and expression.

Kirah is an award-winning illustrator, graphic designer and painter, formally trained as a specialist in medical and biological illustration and owner and creative director of Animania, LLC. Currently she focuses on commissioned fine art and teaching the fundamentals of painting in her workshops. Her various uses of traditional and digital media and subject matter is an outgrowth of her interest in natural science and a love for travel. Fine art works include exploration in abstract landscape and environmental issues and are strongly rooted in color and composition. Her illustrations have been published in textbooks, professional journals, interactive educational programs, and her fine art is held in private collections throughout the U.S. and Denmark.
A native North Carolinian, Kirah has lived in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, the Reno-Lake Tahoe area of northern Nevada, and recently relocated back to the Carolina coast. Kirah's educational background includes undergraduate science and art degrees from Duke University, art study at the North Carolina State School of Design and a master's degree in Medical Illustration from the Medical College of Georgia.
Her work can be seen locally in various juried exhibitions and shows and she is an exhibiting member of the Nelson Fine Arts Gallery in Lexington, Virginia, River to Sea Gallery in Wilmington, NC, a member of the Association of Medical Illustrators and the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators, as well as the Wilmington Art Association |
