Artist Statement:
I create bold, colorful paintings of whimsical cityscapes, roadscapes, people, and animals. Dogs are central to much of my imagery, my canines, Izzy & Alice bring constant inspiration. My lively city and rural scenes are influenced by my love of the city coupled with my love of the rural surroundings I experienced while growing up in small-town Sparta, Wis. I also do many “road-trip” paintings I think these can be a metaphor for the colorful journey I’m on in my everyday life. My paintings also often include people and animals flying over city and landscapes, inspired by dreams of flying - which are said to symbolize happiness.
My style is a mix of contemporary folk and urban pop art, I am a self-taught painter. I started painting over 10 years ago as a creative outlet - to ‘save my soul’ from a stressful corporate job, which I left behind in 1996. I currently work out of my chicago studio and exhibit my paintings at Fine Art Fairs and local Galleries, I also do some illustration and create custom dog and pet portraits.

| Your Personal Biography |
Chicago artist Anne Leuck Feldhaus creates art that makes you smile out loud. Her vivid colors and bold patterns set the tone for her playful compositions which include animals, people, flowers, land and cityscapes. Her paintings include a visual vocabulary of lively shapes and patterns that make up her contemporary folk and urban pop art style. Her prolific imagery is influenced by her dreams, daily sketchbooks and her beloved adopted dogs, Izzy and Alice.
Anne’s style was surely influenced by a childhood of endless Sunday mornings sitting in a Catholic church staring at the stained glass windows. Her color sense further developed every Christmas when her Mother allowed Anne and her Brother to mix their own frosting colors for holiday cutout cookies. Those colors still make up Anne’s palette.
Over the last several years Anne has exhibited nationally in galleries, at fine art fairs, and on-line. Specializing in custom Dog and Pet Portraits, she is also an illustrator and has licensed her designs for stationery and home decor products. Last summer Anne created her largest work to date, an 11 Acre Field Sculpture in rural Illinois where she participated in the Fields Project Artist Residency. She chose the image of a frolicking dog to bring attention to animal adoption.
Anne’s art appeared in Jim Carrey’s 2007 movie, The Number 23. Her work has been featured in publications such as The Chicago Tribune and The Chicago Sun-Times, Modern Dog and on programs such as Art Beat Chicago and Animal Planet. Anne’s works hang in private collections in over 30 U.S. States, as well as internationally.
Anne is strongly committed to using her work to encourage animal adoption and financial support of animal welfare and shelter organizations. |
