Artist Statement:
I paint in the realist and surrealist tradition, the emphasis of my work being the exploration of dream states, the subconscious, and a playful approach to myth and sexuality. My work often implies a narrative, but is really the result of free associations of images which evolve during the painting process. I allow my fantasy free-play and encourage the viewer to find his or her own meanings and associations in what I do.
The touchstone for my imaginative flights is often the human face, or the nude, in all its varieties of emotive suggestion. I like to explore the full gamut of painterly strategies, from subdued monochromatic, more realistic images on one hand, to vibrant, playful and two-dimensional works on the other.
It is the abundance and changeability of the imagination that appeals to me, and which drives my artistic quest.
