Artist Statement:
Mary Hatch’s latest series of acrylic paintings is Flora & Feathers. This series is a juxtaposition of birds, flowers, and butterflies. The images are composed from photos of artist's photo shots of flowers and from references of birds, flowers and butterflies.
The contemporary landscape acrylic paintings are created from photo images of landscapes of Abiqui, Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico. The paintings have contrasting colors that create a sense of “movement” in the paintings. Since 1987, she has created several series of work including: Farmland Series, Roman City Series, Forest Series, Dallas Series, Southwest Series, New Mexico Series, Church Series, Colorado Series, Flora and Feather Series. Creating art has been inspired by viewing art museums in United States and Europe, starting drawing lessons at 16 years old in Montreal, Canada, studying art at the University of Texas at Arlington, TX and printmaking at The University of Dallas, Dallas, TX.
