Artist Statement:
Creative expression is my lifeblood. Doing art is somewhere at the very center of my being. It is who I am, what I do. It is the magic that binds my life together, and helps me to make sense of it all. It is a joyous, wonderful experience for me, a constantly expanding adventure that I feel compelled to include in my daily life.
My life is a tapestry of unusual and diverse experiences. My work is reflective of that diversity and my deep and abiding connection to Spirit, as I live my mission: To act as a catalyst for growth by being a clear channel for Divine Spirits love, light and creative expression. I receive guidance through the joy in my heart, so that I recognize it. ...

| Your Personal Biography |
Dena McKitrick is a Renaissance woman, her life an unusual tapestry of experience and her pleasant personality a unique blend reflective of that history. Born and raised in California, Dena was the eldest child in a family of primarily Scandinavian descent. One might think it was primarily Gypsy descent, as the family moved at least once a year every year of her life until the last part of high school. The variety of living situations and exposure to mixed social flavors provided her psyche with an expansive palette for creative expression in life. For example, when she was 10 they lived in a tract home in Walnut Creek for a couple months, a tent on a gold mine stake in the mountains for 3-4 months, a 14-bedroom mansion with a full size ballroom for two months, then finally settled for the remainder of the school year in a quaint lumber mill house next to the small town roller-skating rink.
There was a depth and richness to this lifestyle. She became a master at adaptability as she, by necessity, developed independent creative thought processes. Most years the family had no TV. Dena loved to draw, read and write, collect rocks, and invent things, because these were things she could do irrespective of her surroundings and available entertainments. She developed a truly eclectic expertise in moment-by-moment life-fluency. Later, travels in Europe, the United States and Mexico, diversified studies in her many areas of interest, and continued immersion in her lifelong spiritual quest augmented her quilted proficiency.
Dena holds a B.A. and a M.A. in art from CSU Chico, community college credentials in Art and Related Technologies, English, and Dance, and an assortment of awards and recognitions. She is constantly upgrading her knowledge base. For instance, in November, 2007, Dena completed a 30-hour professional development series on developing and delivering standards-based arts curricula. The 2007 Artist’s Residency Institute (created and funded through the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission) provided the training, which included a two-day seminar led by Dr. Rosalind Flynn, a consultant with The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. Dena was also accepted into the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission’s Artist Resource Directory.
The myriad areas of study and experience have included: sculpture, painting, drawing, stained glass, mosaics, carpentry, plumbing, quilting, cooking, un-cooking (raw food preparation), dance, voice, herbology, meditation, Native American practices, shamanism, mineralogy, ceramics, graphic design, photography, illustration, and writing. Dena has taught, sharing her expertise in many of these areas, at community colleges, in public schools to students of all grade levels, through 3 different art councils, and many other public and private venues.
Dena is passionate about life, and dedicated to sharing her exuberance for quality life with others.
