Artist Statement:
For J.M. Trahan, creating art has been a passion every day of her life. She is greatly influenced by the Impressionists and Neo Impressionists use of technique, color and light: Claude Monet is her greatest role model for his composition, free brush style and his serious study of light and color; Renoir's use of vibrant colors, Winslow Homer's emotional sea paintings and Sargent's magnificent water colors and landscapes are all influential. She was born, lived and painted on the Long Island, NY coastline for most of 55 years, traveling to different parts of the world for inspiration. She is now living and working in the Midwest, drawing influence from the history, the vast horizons and landscapes of the rivers, lakes and prairies. She is a signature member of the National Society of Painters in Casein and Acrylic. She was a gallery owner, juror, teacher, costume designer and builder and scenic artist for theatre. She has painted and sold many beautiful paintings and murals to businesses and individuals. In her work, like the Impressionists, Trahan likes to use nature as her subject matter. She follows her inner force, her need to study: how color and light interact ...

She follows her inner force, her need to study: how color and light interact in different surroundings. Janet has an excellent understanding of painterly techinique and its visual and perceptual influence on the viewer. Using the power of compositional balance, depth and movement, determination of the abstract form in the lights and darks are among the qualities found in her work.
Serenity and peace may be the feeling one gets while viewing her work or the scent of the sea or a floral garden...the coolness of shade under a floral covered path, the symphonic orchestration of colors and emotions in weather filled skies and seas and color charged landscapes. Trahan's paintings are an escape, an adventure, a place to relax and remember
