Artist Statement:
Art is a living organism that changes as we do, and is shaped, as we are, by its context and experience in space. Spatial experience is implicit in our construction of the world and involves continually creating and reforming meanings and archetypes. The processes of building, piecing, and arranging correspond to the way ideas grow and change in a mental map. This work is about making choices, adaption, sustainability, and territory. The static pieces are of a transient nature and imply the life and death of materials and experiences. The interactive, transformable capability of some of the paintings means that the image is constantly in flux and crisis. By sharing creative authorship with the viewer, anyone may reconstruct meaning using their own framework, leaving a message for the next viewing. This active participation encourages the viewer to confront formal aesthetic decisions and consider their spatial experience as having artistic value.
