I'm thinking on that one, it may take a while to create a solid reference. Inspirational moments are fleeting, hard to capture -- Rust inspires, old bricks, wood floors |

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
Writing began to tire me, I lost concentration and could not complete an assignment because life around me became so fragmented. I began to assemble the parts which made me whole. It turned into art.
In the South [US], the confounding struggle between reality and illusion creates tremendous opportunities for artists. Valerie MacEwan travels the South in a concerted effort to learn about the Struggle. Seeking to separate southern reality from fiction, her research takes her to pig pickins, funerals, tent revivals, the Family Dollar Store, swamp festivals and mudruns. The truth, as she sees it, is revealed in her assemblages, writing and her photography. |
