Artist Statement:
My paintings are "A dialogue
between the abstract and the
representational". Painting,
for me, is about color, shape,
and space. I am a colorist. I
like color and its expressive
value. My landscape paintings
are interpretations of real
places. The color relates
light with subject. The broad
simplified forms whether it's
a barn or house dominate the
space. I rely more on
spontaneity and try to
abstract the color
relationship of a specific
moment in nature using my own
interpretation of colors and
forms. The transparent colors
overlap one another and
underlying colors glow from
within. Each painting is
painted several times to
achieve the desired effect....

Your Personal Biography My paintings are 'A dialogue between the abstract and the representational'. Painting, for me, is about color, shape, and space. I am a colorist. The broad simplified forms whether it's a barn or house dominate the space. I rely more on spontaneity and try to abstract the color relationship of a specific moment in nature using my own interpretation of colors and forms. The transparent colors overlap one another and underlying colors glow from within. Each painting is painted several times to achieve the desired effect.

The landscapes are infused with subtle atmosphere and stream of bold light to create powerful moods that transcend simpler subjects. I try to focus on strong compositions and distinct themes such as Barns and let the central subject emerge in various settings. The afternoon or evening light on the walls of small and large barns in pristine natural setting can have dramatic impact on the overall subject. The barn roofs or walls have intense light and even distant barns stand out in the compositions. These subjects help me interpret color and forms relationship.

In my paintings color and light create atmospheric and sensual pictorial fields and evoke the ethereal world of nature even when they are non-representational. They invoke sensation of season, place or time. The transparent colors overlap one another in rhythmic fashion and underlying colors create shimmering effect. The soft and diffused edges create illusion of fading boundaries and the occasional impulsive brush strokes break the steady pattern of color and create sudden movements.

I have been painting various subjects apart from landscape to experiment with color, dynamics of lines, forms.luminosity, it's weight, modification of color around it, it's chromatic distance from them, simultaneous contrast, light air and density, together with its emotional and associative content.

Artist I Admire:
Wolf Kahn, Mark Rothoko, Milton Avery, Paul Cezanne
