Artist Statement:
I enjoy the liberating experience of being an artist. There are no rules, only unlimited ideas.
Every medium has its unique and exhilerating properties, like the juiciness of oils or the vibrancy of pigmented wax. There is also subject matter for paintings everywhere--the beautiful fall sunest in the Hudson Valley, the brilliant colors of farm fresh vegetables, or the smiles on childrens' faces.
Sometimes I create works that are representational, because I like solving the puzzle of creating something in two dimensions that does justice to the "real" thing or person.
At other times, I just let the medium create the dynamics, and let the emotions or shapges emerge.
My newest work is based on combining figurative drawing and encaustics. I love to draw and have found that the addition of pigmented wax permits me to capture more of the emotion of the subject. This website is devoted entirely to my work in encaustics. To see work in other mediums, go to www.barbarawalterfinearts.com.. .

The Impressionist painters captured mood as well as told a story. They were also radical in their time. How inspiring! |

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I painted in high school but selected a career in finance by accident. Another accident, breaking my foot, gave me the reason to try art again during the summer six years ago. Now retired for two years, I love solving the problem of creating pleasing art in a variety of mediums. |
