The paintings of Barbara de Mora are imaginary compositions that tell a story. Like a memory or a dream, her artwork shows places and people that are a blend of reality and illusion.
Barbara is currently working on three styles of acrylic painting. The smaller people paintings are snap shots, or moments seen and then created on canvas. Following the inspiring works of Stanley Spencer, and Beryl Cook, these works have become part of her “British” statement about art. The second style is the larger imaginary landscapes, first inspired by Canadian environment, and continued through her time in New Zealand and France, and finally touching the energetic “Chi” of Dartmoor. Thirdly, Barbara takes inspiration from a scorpionic subconscious, producing rich, intricate spiritual images of semi-abstract human forms to express the wholeness of our human psyche.
Barbara studied art at several institutions in Canada and New Zealand, including: Capilano Art School and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada; the University of Quebec in Rimouski, Canada; the Auckland Society of Arts, and the Auckland Outreach Cultural Centre in New Zealand.
