Remnants and Roots:
A sense of place is something that I have never really had. Growing up I often felt that I was in the wrong country, town, or time. We sold our first house with the intention of moving somewhere "perfect". We spent a year looking for the "perfect" place. The journey took us across the country. After a number of house deals falling through we gave up.
Ten minutes down the road we saw the perfect house. It made me realize that I do have roots here in my home area. Looking back I realize that as I walked through the woods I would collect momentoes. These reflect the flora and fauna of the area which is quite specific.
These paintings represent my feeling of home. ...

| Your Personal Biography |
Much of Jennifer's fascination with the natural world began with the meeting of the cats Pusscat and Fluffy at her parents house the day she was brought home from the hospital. It was these two cats that showed her the joy of animal companions. As a child she became part of the Oakville Humane Society's
Junior Club which instilled a respect for the planet as a whole and all the creatures on it. Moving close to a ravine Jennifer spent much of her adolescence exploring the wild places close to home, bringing home various critters much to her mother's chagrin.
Drawing was another part of childhood life for Jennifer. She would pour over books about how to draw all kinds of animals. When Jennifer first saw the work of Robert Bateman she realized the two loves could be combined. This realization led her to study at Central Technical School, Sheridan College, Humber College, and with other artists.
Jennifer works in a wide variety of media from acrylic to paper, finding that each time she changes medium it is her favourite. Jennifer finds her inspiration in the natural world. Much of her work features animals and plants of all different shapes and sizes, from big cats to diatoms. In true gemini fashion, Jennifer's styles reflect her dual personalities. |
