Your Personal Biography Robert Pulley is a native of Indiana. As a boy he walked among woods, fields, creeks and rock outcroppings and developed a fascination with the forms and forces of nature. Now he keeps his studio on a small lake surrounded by his sculptures, trees and gardens. In this environment his sculptures have evolved into strong organic abstractions referencing biological and geologic forms.

Robert has worked with clay since undergraduate school in 1970. In 1972 he became a partner in forming Sun Hai Pottery in rural Spencer County. He later ran Dunnerman Hill Studio in rural Pike County. In 1978 he graduated with a Masters of Arts Degree in ceramics and sculpture from Ball State University. He then moved with his wife, Nancy, to Columbus, Indiana where he set up his current studio.

Mr. Pulley’s work can be found in art collections around the country including the museum collections of Wright State University Museum of Art, Canton Art Institute, Greater Lafayette Museum of Art, corporate collections such as McDonald’s Corporation, S.A.I. Corporation, Kaiser Permanente and fine private collections such as Richard Ford, Ron and Judy Isaacs, Christel DeHaan, Robert Stone and Sandy Besser.

His work has been featured in publications such as Sculpting Clay, Chicago Artists, Smashing Glazes, The Artful Home, and The Sculpture Reference.

Robert Pulley is represented by ARTBox Gallery in Indianapolis and Heike Pickett Gallery in Versailles, KY. After a recent group exhibition at Galerie Hertz, Louisville Courier- Journal art critic Diane Heilenman wrote: “The headliner is work that should be familiar to Louisville gallery-goers... the meditative spirit of Pulley’s great hunks of seemingly self formed clay soars ...”

Robert seeks to forge a connection between his heart and mind to the heart and mind of the observer by way of the eye and hand. Through clay he explores his place in the vast, mysterious, interconnected and sacred nature.
