Artist Statement:
Christine, a self-taught artist, returned professionally to her love of painting just 5 years ago. Her talent for drawing and painting developed at a young age when she voluntarily studied impressionism and the old masters. Around the age of 14 she exhibited for the first time in a Canterbury Art Exhibition. During the early years at High school, she received a First Prize for Art, though having had no formal tuition. She went on to study Art History (University of Canterbury) and more recently, Information Design (CPIT) including current design principles, the use and impact of visual information particularly in today’s world, often alluded to as the 'age of the image’.
Christine's paintings explore a variety of subjects and styles from realism through to abstract, using various media, including watercolour, oil and acrylics. She considers her favoured approach somewhat expressionistic. She paints from her imagination, drawings and her own digital photographs. Comments are that Christine’s paintings exude striking use and placement of color and this has been reflected in her early success as a professional artist.
