| Your Personal Biography |

Born: the 10 th of November 1939 in the Netherlands, in the city of Haarlem, in the province of North Holland. He is now residing in Lucan, Ontario Canada. Jan studied painting and decorating. As a Journeyman he apprenticed in Holland, before coming to Canada in 1961. From April 1961 till October 1970 he was a successful selfemployed painter and decorator. In 1969 Brouwer decided to forgo business entirely, and devote himself to the visual arts.
His artistic ability to deal with materials, led him to new techniques, in acrylics, and oil painting, which he displays in many styles. It is the diversity and approach that make him stand out. Jan firmly believes, that all people can learn to paint or sculpt, in some form or other. The mechanics belong to the craft's person, and the art is from the mind and soul. You as the viewer, must feel the honesty and emotion of the artist, all else are fraudulent. Art is from the people, for the people. Brouwer combines a holistic approach to his work, the skills of an expert painter, and the consciousness of an artist.
His work has received much support, and recognition, and is exhibited in private collections throughout the world. A sculpture measuring 26 feet in height was created to honour his first patron Donald Crich, in London Ontario Canada. Other sculptures and paintings are showing in residential and commercial settings. On request, Jan has been an instructor for Fanshawe College, London Board of Education, and the Public Utility Commission. He has had many engagements lecturing and performing art shows. Jan. shares his skills and artistry with anyone who would like to listen.
His work is a personal statement of experiences. Though influenced by many artists, the work of Jan Brouwer recognizes the eternal state of flux. He displays an inquiring mind, concerned with various themes. What is finally left is the thought, not the art. Jan Brouwer's influential works stand as an act of his conscience. The healing of mind, body, and soul is an integral part of his presentation.
