Artist Statement:

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I spent all my childhood and adolescence drawing while listening to teachers, the TV or my family. It was something I did naturally, with no other reason than the fact it did not occur to me not to do drawings. Yet, this was of no consequence. To become an artist was never my objective and never kept those drawings. In fact, my first choice after hight school was to study Lettres Modernes in the center Henri IV in Paris. And while I was struggling to understand the depresssive psyche of my Philosophy teacher and trying to remember a huge amount of French History dates with my insect´s memory, I still was drawing. So, when I lost my scholarship and returned to Valencia, I had to confront the fact that I may have been borned to be an artist because I was always doing drawings. I entered in Fine Arts in Valencia with no knowledge of what that career was about. For once in my life, I was drawing and not studying something else while doing so. Painting was a revelation and I loved scuplture except for the fact that I am a left handed being not handy in the use of tools. Yet, I am an artist? My friends think so. Truly I don´t like to be an artist, to limit my capabilities into becoming an artist. But despite all my efforts to be a person with a regular salary and no creative concerns, life gives me no other choice than to be an artist. |
