Artist Statement for Carol Wubbena

I am an artist and poet who has had the good fortune to be able to combine my talent in the creative arts with my deep interest in history and archaeology. My interest in the past has taken me in many directions;from being on the staff of excavations abroad to
restoring historic buildings such as the one in whichI live and work. Artistic research has led me to relatedsubjects such as mythology, world religions and psychology.
As a result of my experiences, I use images and symbols of various ancient civilizations as inspiration for my paintings and monotype prints. Archetypal and feminine nuances are also woven into my multi layered narrative. Mysteriously suspended within these tableaus are brightly colored figures and abstract, geometric and primal forms.
I often combine my paintings with my poetry and with music written
forthe paintings. The music is composed by my son, J. Fletcher. We present interdisciplinary productions at Cara Studios in Barnesville,Ga. and throughout the southeast. As you will find by looking at my portfolio and website, I am adept at painting many subjects. I am often commissioned for paintings and I havework in educationaland other public buildings throughout the United States.
