Artist Statement:
My work reflects the convergence of subconscious data to stand out above every forgotten moment. There are moments in portrayal in images, though many more that exist fleeting and unrecorded. My research of electronic web and database media are a symptom of my fascination with such data as information, communicated electronically, and the implications of a tesselation of moments and data recorded in the mind and massive data systems everywhere. The curiosity frontiers in revelations of whether the phenomena of natural and electronic tessellation of event and record, as implied by tessellation patterns, extend beyond the human mind- if their self evidence of patterns reveal aspects beyond workable perception.
Each image is not an attempt to sell a feeling, a personal exploration, or ego food. It is the proof of a moment of reconciliation, between subconscious patterns of perception. It is the mowing of a perceptual lawn, the identification and removal of splinters, a cataract bypass of the limbs that heal. It is one kind of process that reflects the process of a conscious search for truth and joy. It is the first evidence....

Artist Reviews:
"Artists often work within a certain set of rules; these rules or ideas help them define their style. For Edwards artist Caroline Blaker, these rules don't exist...Blaker's work is tremendously varied; abstract bursts of thick latex in primary colors sit next to realistic renderings of a nighttime...

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
Hypothetically, I became an artist because I have always been one. I was lucky enough to have parents who understood this and fostered my creativity. |

| Your Personal Biography |
My existence in this world has always been motivated by need to do good for myself and others. I have confronted, battled and overcome many of the issues affecting women today: low self esteem, cancer at a young age, domestic violence, and finding meaning to life. I was raised in Connecticut, but have lived in St. Louis Missouri, Vail Colorado, Albuquerque New Mexico, and Paris France.
Art in some ways has always been an escape, but it is also the first skill I ever became determined to learn and thus opened the door for my intellect as a whole. I have been drawing and painting since I can remember and took my first oil instruction at 9 years. From 2001 to 2002 I spent a year in Paris, in a photography intensive, in a ceramics residency, and as a copyist in the Louvre Museum. I hold a BFA from Washington University in St. Louis, where I studied Ceramics and Installation art, winning the Siroky Prize at graduation. I was awarded a residency with the Center of Creative Arts in the Urban Arts program for one and a half years, and have taken my career to the web in pursuing web development and programming. I have been a member of Art Dimensions in St. Louis, and helped found the Eagle Valley Artists Alliance (EVAA) in the Vail area. I am a breast cancer survivor as of 25 years of age- a truly revolutionary time of my life. It was around this time where I first took up my latex paint and did the first Concetta series. Though I have reflected, the healing process of cancer has yet to truly surface in my work, though I suspect it is not far off. I currently live with the love of my life in Albuquerque where I am looking for opportunities regionally and nationally to showcase my work and create new work, particularly installation and digitally based art. |
