Artist Statement:
Paul Chisholm's work explores
notions of what constitutes a
perfect world. through
landscape paintings. the
artist nasks us to contemplate
mans relationship with nature
- both renewal and destruction
- life's cycles.
The artists concerns are with
the state of the world in the
21st century. Paul's work
contrasts idylic country
landscapes with
post-apocalyptic toxic
wastelands, raising issues of
impending climate change,
over-population, lost wildlife
habitats, polution and over
consumption in a post
industrial age. The
construction of more and more
homes and the creation of ever
more material objects is
rapidly changing the very
fabric of the worlds
ecosystems.
beneath these paintings is a
feeling that life is far from
idylic: ironically we are
destroying the planet and each
other in pursuit of a
percieved perfect life.... ...
