Artist Statement:
We are all just visitors to
this life, and I find brevity
of that beautiful. Sometimes
we are told what something
means, but sometimes we
discover it on our own. The
meaning then, comes from
within, and comes out
creatively. These are my
meanings, my paintings. The
way a tree can look sad or
joyful. The way the wind can
pierce your body or invigorate
your soul. My art carries the
meanings I have discovered and
try to convey with color,
line, texture and subject
matter. With every ordinary
thing bringing something to a
moment it’s my joy to discover
it and create a piece of art
that encompasses the brief
moment that inspired me.
Having never stepped away from
your ordinary life, there is
no reason to discover it. I
like to leave behind pieces of
myself, get lost and discover
new meaning for myself and I
think this is where my
inspiration and passion for
Art comes from. ...

Why Did You Become An Artist

Your Personal Biography Originally I am from Austin, Texas, now living in New York. My interest in the past led me to study Art History at The University of Texas, but I've always liked to make art as well. I really thought I would go to college and major in Art, however, after taking an Art History class I found a whole new world of Art that I really enjoyed. Early on as an undergrad I had an affinity for the Italian Renaissance. I had studied so much, when I closed my eyes I felt like I was walking through the streets of 15th century Florence. Although being in Texas had its advantages, Italian culture wasn’t one of them. I was exposed much more to the Chicano/a, Mexican, and Latin American art scene and culture. Being exposed to so many types of art through Art History, my own work started to develop and become inspired by the artists I was visiting in the classroom.

My favorite mediums to work in are Watercolors, Pencils, and Acrylics. I started making art in the early 90's and it's been my passion ever since, along with traveling. I’ve been from the crypts to the dome of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. I’ve seen mummies and been on the canals in Amsterdam. I’ve stood under the Alexander Calder installation at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., and sat in front of my favorite paintings by Gustav Klimt at the Museum of Modern Art. My travels have taken me to fantastic places and given me invaluable inspiration for life and art.

I strive to make my art creative, original and daring.
