Artist Statement:
Investigating themes of
humanity and human nature ...
is what my pieces are a
reflection of--an imprint...a
memoir and a motive for
reflection about my life and
times.
The presence and absence of
objects (bullets, knives,
teeth) play an important part
in 'rememberance' and the act
of 'provoking thought'.
Being in the presence of an
object we know is used to
wound, to the print marking
the obvious absence of the
same- leaves one with thoughts
of our own certain reality:
our every day knowledge of the
violence around me directly
and/or indirectly. Iraq,
Lebanon, Palestine, Israel,
Ciudad Juarez- from my Mexico
, My new home: Washington DC
(this summer 2006--- 15+
murders.. and counting).
Realities can also be simple
as they surround me. My
constant fascination with the
beauty of insects and other
found objects leads me to
memorialize them on my
canvases (btw: I only keep
them when dead).
In Mexico it was scorpions....
now in the Washington DC area,
I am turning to wasps and
cicadas.

Sergio Olivos M originates from Mexico.
He holds a BFA in painting.
Before moving to the USA (2005), he was teaching painting, drawing and encaustic at the University of Queretaro, Mexico.
He has exhibited throughout Mexico, to include the Museo de Arte de la Ciudad de Queretaro. He has exhibited in the Washington DC Metro area to include the Art Institute of Washington and at the Martin Luther King Library.
Sergio Olivos M resides in Arlington Virginia with his partner and fellow artist Claudia Olivos . Although he is primarily a painter(specializing in encaustics) and a drawer, he is also involved in assemblage work, collage, and more. He teaches in their home studio OlivosARTstudio LLC., and at other local venues (please contact him if interested in workshops, classes, lectures).
Originario de México, tiene una licenciatura en Artes Visuales, especialidad en pintura.
Antes mudarse a los EEUU (2005), él enseñaba pintura, dibujo, encausticay temple en la Universidad Autonoma de Queretaro, México.
El ha exhibido a través de México, incluyendo el Museo de Arte de la Ciudad de Queretaro. Ha tenido exposiciones en el área metropolitana de Washington DC, como el Instituto de Arte de Washington y en la Biblioteca Martin Luther King.
