Artist Statement:
I was once told that "to be
taken seriously as an artist
you need to think of yourself
as one"....a very true
thought. In the beginning I
had thought of myself as
someone who made dolls..just
to give for gifts to friends
and family....then a fantastic
doll artist saw my creations
and questioned as to why I
wasn't thinking of myself as
an artist..that I had talent
and a love of what I do..yet I
wasn't letting others enjoy my
art...and that I needed to
promote myself and let others
have the means to purchase one
of my sculptures. To humor
her I listed one of my
dolls..a faery named Fuchsia
and another an elf I named
Mugwort..pricing my work was
an adventure in itself but
with help I was taught what
was required...2 days later
both dolls were sold! Lesson
learned...believe in yourself
and others will too!...

Biggest Artistic Inspiration The first time I saw an art doll I was speechless...I had only seen prims and rag types in the past and they seemed so lifeless to me..then I saw art dolls created by Patti Culea/Sherry Goshon/epb/and Paula Johnson and I was given the feeling that I finally found my purpose.

Why Did You Become An Artist I felt a need to share my thoughts...I am not one who finds speaking my thoughts as an easy task..but by using my gift to create figurative art from cloth I am sharing what my muse leads me to convey. I felt a strong pull at my inner self..something that wouldn't be ignored...yet needed to be expressed...and I hope others find pleasure in my art.

Your Personal Biography I am a self taught creator of cloth art sculptures...I prefer to do fantasy creatures and use my imagination to give them life...yet I have created other figures as my muse leads me. My maternal grandmother taught me to sew at a very young age and inspired me to be free to create art with whatever materials I had in my reach..to see beauty and purpose in things that others would consider trash and to give them a renewed life. She also taught me several crafts which at the time left me searching for something that would tell others who I am inside. I used these lessons and discovered that by letting myself be free to create I was able to make a simple piece of cloth have a personality and a story to tell. I have had my art displayed in the Ontario County Arts Council Gallery ,recently in Dolls United Magazine, also had one of them at AFIC in Columbus, Ohio in 2007, have had 2 of them selected as cover dolls at a yahoo site of artists who create goddess and fantasy dolls, and featured in a display at a local public library to promote a new look at a forgotten art form. I handsew my creations and their faces are needlesculpted and handpainted..their bodies are wired for posability and from time to time use another artist's pattern as inspiration when I feel the need...and always give that artist due credit.
