My Favorite Part is Mixing the Paints
“First I cover the painting surface with a thin wash of color to get rid of the bare white. This allows me to dive into the picture. From there, I make a small outline of my composition. This outline helps me decide where to place my subject in the painting. I organize my brushes and paints and start mixing them on a palette. This is my favorite part. Mixing the paints brings life and mystery to the colors.” -Colette Wirz
“Painting always begins with intense observation of the subject matter. In these paintings I draw inspiration from the seven birds that live in my apartment as well as the fish I observed in a recent trip to Florida. I also use nature photography books to compare the colors I observe directly.''

Inspiration:
Inspired by my fascination with nature, I juxtapose birds, fish, shells, flowers, and landscapes in a variety of environments in my works; offering viewers a glimpse into my dreams and imagination. My body of work expresses the beauty and nobility I see within all life no matter what level it may occur, My paintings capture a delicacy and at the same time a boldness in form.
My strong colors challenge the viewer. Painting for me, always begins with intense observation of the subject matter.
