Artist Statement for Collins Redman

ARTIST STATEMENT

I love the play of light and color in the world around me and use these influences in my work as I experiment with shape and color and light. Each painting is an exploration, and may be more or less realistic or abstract as my mood and brush lead me. If I am successful in my use of these influences, you may catch a glimpse of what I see and feel also.

ARTIST INFORMATION

Collins' work shows her love of color, shape and texture as she paints her impressionistic views of the world around her. Landscapes, still life, gardens and people, all fascinate her and find their way to her brush and canvas as she abstracts the shapes and plays with color.

Collins has been exhibiting her work throughout the United States for many years, and has won numerous awards. Her work can be found in both private and corporate collections worldwide. She studied fine art and interior design at The California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland/San Francisco, California, where she graduated with honors. She currently teaches pastel and oil painting at Cottonwood Artists School, Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she also maintains a studio. Collins has studied with Elizabeth Mowry, Matt Smith, Kim English, Camille Przewodek and other notable teachers and mentors who have influenced her development as a painter.

Collins paints in both oils and pastels and is a member of the Oil Painters of America, The Pastel Society of America, the American Impressionist Society, Women Artists of the West, The Pastel Society of New Mexico, Plein Air New Mexico and as a signature member of The Pastel Society of Colorado and The Mid-America Pastel Society. Collins maintains studios in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
