Castagna is represented by Rolly-Michaux Gallery (617.536.9898). To visit the gallery go to 290 Dartmouth Street in the Vendome building located in the Back Bay of Boston on the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and Dartmouth Street only half a block from Newbury Street. Ron Rolly and Ron Michaux have been art dealers and gallery owners since 1967 and they will be happy to answer your questions and provide any information that you may need. Call to make an appointment or just stop in during regular hours: Tuesday through Friday 11-4 and Saturday until 5:30. Currently on view at the gallery are images from Robert`s Kyoto Series. In November of 2009 an exhibition of new works will be on display.
Castagna`s first series of work was black and white photographs of Copley Square which were shown in a solo exhibition in the Boston Room of the Boston Public Library. Work from this series and other black and whites of a similar nature were then acquired by the library for its permanent collection. This exhibition was followed up with photographs of Harvard Square, using the Square itself as the exhibition venue, photographs were scattered throughout storefronts and store-windows in a broad show entitled the Harvard Square Document. Images from these early shows were also exhibited in the Danforth Museum of Art. The above two shows were photographs in the tradition of 'street photography'. Images from this era will be featured in an upcoming book entitled 'Harvard Square'.
The next major series of work was photographs from Kyoto Japan in a portfolio entitled Kyoto in its Season. This work was displayed in a solo exhibition at Rolly-Michaux Gallery in Boston. Pieces from this series were then selected for the New Hampshire Institute of Art, the Brookline Arts Center, Casa Moretti (museum of Marino Moretti in Italy) and soon to be exhibited at the Art Complex Museum. Prints from this series are now also being acquired by the permanent collection of the Boston Public Library. One can view and acquire images from this collection at the gallery.
His latest work is entitled L'Ombra dell'Italia and will be on view at Rolly-Michaux in November of 2009. |
