| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
My biggest artistic inspiration was probably my father who once sat down with a piece of paper and a pencil when I was about seven years old and started to make lines on the paper. To my amazement the lines he made on that paper slowly became a caricature of "Popeye the Sailor". I was intrigued by this and from that point on I began to try to draw (copy) the characters in comic books. Thus began my interest in art - inspired by my dad. |

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I began painting and sculpting because I like the idea of making (creating) something out of nothing for others to see and react to. If an artist can engage a viewer and evoke a response to something he or she has produced then there is an element of success in the work. The artist has total control of the final piece. The viewer sees only the final product. If the artist can engage the viewer to question the process used to develop the piece AFTER enjoying the initial attraction to it then the artist's job is done. |

| Your Personal Biography |
Angel L. Cruz Manso was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico in December 1951. He received his formal education in the public schools of NYC where he first developed an appreciation for art and music.
In 1972 Cruz began attending classes at New York City Community College where he majored in early childhood education. It was during this period of study that Cruz Manso registered for elective art courses in art history, figure drawing and painting and his appreciation for the fine arts deepened.
In 1978 Cruz completed the requirements for a BA in Early childhood Education (Grades K-12). He used these credentials to teach Child Care Careers courses, English, Math, Social Studies, and Art to young adults at High School Redirection, an alternative high school in Brooklyn. He worked as a teacher/counselor and served as resident artist within the school collaborating with other teachers to design and produce the school's yearbooks and other art related projects.
In 1981 he registered for courses at Brooklyn College to pursue a post baccalaureate degree in fine arts. He received a BFA ( Bachelor of Fine Arts) degree in 1989. In 1996 he was admitted to the Graduate Art program at Brooklyn College. From spring 1997 to spring 1998 Cruz served as vice president of the Graduate Art Students Union (GASU). In June 1999 he completed the requirements for the MFA (Master of Fine Arts) degree.
Cruz continues to work as a painter and a sculptor out of his studio in Brooklyn, New York City, USA. He exhibits his work whenever and wherever he can to gain exposure and experience as an artist. His work can be seen on the Internet at:
