My art language is replete with references from my childhood; it communicates happiness and optimism through the use of highly vivid colors.
First of all, I am a creator of illusions. Secondly, when I paint, I like to be sure I am expressing my feelings and reaching out to people at the same time. I love to create empathy and to communicate with my viewers. For me they are the key to my creative process. So I assume only those cannons which I think it will make my contact with people possible.
The conceptual tenet behind my pieces is seeing art as the vehicle “par excellence” to create illusions and to depict the appearances of things that pretend to be, but they are nonetheless, mere forms and colors.
My work, in one way or another, has always been influenced by the experiences I have had and the spaces I have lived, first in Cuba then in New York and later in Phoenix, Arizona. The time lived in the U.S. the acceptance of a new language and a new culture affected my life when I was young in profound ways. These experiences have created a constant nostalgic feeling which has not subsided over the years. This is very apparent in my work, which is permeated by the presence of my childhood, teen nuances, cultural shock and the cultural and political tolerance that comes with it, making the process of adaptation very difficult for me. All these experiences combined have given me the fuel to create my art work. They have, inevitably, made me reconsider who I am, and what sort of changes I have welcomed throughout my life, and which ones have helped me shaped my identity.
I think it is tedious to remain the same throughout the entire life. That is why I welcome the kind of experience that nurtures and at the same time bring about changes, which in my case changes are reflected in the autobiographical components of my art pieces. One last word. I don’t paint to transcend, I only paint for pleasure, for the joy of painting. Life is art. In various occasions I depict it, other times, I fill it with colors, and still other time I perceive it through music, the faithful companion of my struggles!

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I am a self-taught visual artist. Although I had known I had a strong desire to paint for my entire life, I did not start to paint formally until the summer of 2004. My explorations in painting consist of themes in the realm of the abstract and realism. Most currently, I find myself fascinated working with pen and ink.
The images in my work reflect my own world: my life, my environment, my feelings, and my thoughts – all that exists inside or outside of me. I compose my images based on emotional, musical, and poetic associations rather than on rules of pictorial logic.

| Your Personal Biography |
The artist was born in Cienfuegos, Cuba. Her enthusiasm for the arts became evident at a very early age through her drawings and musical skills. At age 16 she graduated as a concertist at the Conservatorio Amadeo Roldan in La Habana, Cuba and continued her classical repertory studies under the direction of the late Maestro Cesar Perez Centenat. She gave multiple piano recitals in Cuba an abroad. With her family she moved to New York where she lived for several years. In Arizona art expressions has continued being part of her life as a student at Arizona State University and as an individual artist creating beautiful pieces of art, but this time using paper and canvas as a media to reach her audience.
