Dan Freed
Artist’s Statement
Regardless of the subject matter, I am filtering everything through my imagination – to combine a small sense of reality with what I would like the world to look like. I like to paint scenes from places that have left a lasting impression on me, such as experiencing the blasting wind on the glaciers of Iceland, or walking across the street on a rainy day in New York. I can be equally inspired by creating a simple still life or a portrait of my family. Sometimes I work entirely from my imagination.
I work mostly in oils on canvas. Much of my recent work has been landscapes and city scenes that allow the viewer to use their own imaginations to fill in the details. I am influenced by everyone from Monet, Klimt and Norman Rockwell to fantasy illustrator Roger Dean.
I grew up in Ohio and received a Bachelors of Fine Art from the Columbus College of Art & Design in 1990. My life has led me in many different career directions after art school, but art has always been “my thing”, so in the past few years I have decided to make a significant move towards ...

Artist’s Statement
