Artist Statement:
ART AND ITS CONCEPTION

In the creative process, we
can start from reality, but we
must find our own way of
communicating, resisting the
temptation to give in to
simple imitation. Reality is
only a point of reference. Art
is and must be abstract to the
extend that it makes use of
ideas, not objects. But being
abstract does not mean being
empty of content. I feel that
if an artist has nothing to
say, nothing to communicate,
he can't create art. In
addition, he has to find a way
of doing so.

EL ARTE Y SU CONCEPCION

En la creación podemos partir
de la realidad pero debemos
buscar un lenguaje propio para
comunicarnos, evitando caer en
la simple imitación. La
realidad es sólo una
referencia. El arte es y debe
ser abstracto en la medida que
trabaja con ideas y no con
objetos. Pero ser abstracto no
significa que sea vacío en
contenido. Considero que si un
artista no tiene nada que
decir, nada que comunicar no
puede hacer arte. También
tiene que encontrar el camino

Your Personal Biography Daniel Pontet was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1957 and has resided in Miami, Florida since 1991. He developed artistically in Uruguay, under watercolor painter Esteban Garino -who taught him the art of drawing and composition- and under artists Américo Spósito and Hector Laborde, who instilled into him the magic of color and a particular emphasis on space and shapes.

Today, immersed in a new plastic period called “Metamorphosis,” Pontet is re-creating part of an enigmatic world of symbols. His works or “collages” look like accurate maps where we can find a path to think as well as reflect about our own spiritual life. This late series is also characterized by colors extracted from the soil and incrusted objects which become powerful symbols or metaphors.

Daniel Pontet started exhibiting in 1975 and has participated in more than 70 art shows. He has received several prizes and acknowledgments and continues to show that his creativity has found no end. Effort and devotion are his most precious tools along with truthfulness.
