Artist Statement:
My work is influenced by a lifelong love of medieval history tainted by the romantic codes of chivalry and courtly love. Current influences are the music of Heather Alexander, my new found talent for the bagpipes and a renewed interest in my Scottish heritage. The work explores common items from the medieval and renaissance eras through conventional patterns and techniques of construction while making use of traditional and unexpected nontraditional materials.
This work embodies the patterns and lines of medieval armor combined with influence from my Scottish heritage and the trappings of chivalric honor. The combination of hard lines and fluting contrast to the flowing Celtic knotwork, leather, bone and fabric to create conflict and interest in the work. The familiar images draw on primal memory and inspire thought and reflection in the viewer.

| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
I have been inspired by M.C. Escher for most of my art career. My current work looks nothing like his but he is still a constant inpiration into what is possible. Much of my current work is inspired by the music of Heather Alexander, I find so many visuals running through my mind when I listen. The real challenge is trying to get them out before they fade. |

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
Art is an emotional outlet. While my sword fighting gets out most of my frustrations with the world, my art releases the demons that can't physically be ousted. |

| Your Personal Biography |
I have a passion for sharing my work and the art world with others through community service. To this end I work and have for many years been a tutor to Middle and High school art students in both California and Georgia. I encourage the exchange of knowledge through the Boy Scouts of America as an Assistant Scout Master, Unit Commissioner and Merit Badge Counselor in Art, Woodwork, Metalwork and Graphic Design. While working with students and scouts I realized early on that teaching others what I have learned can be rewarding beyond measure. When a student has that sudden 'Ah-ha' moment, you see the light go on and realize that they get it, that feeling is a tremendous high. Passing on my knowledge has always been part of who I am and that is likely due, at least in part, to those that have taught me over the years. That is why I am going into teaching, to help others find their potential, to pass on my knowledge to another generation and to do my part to keep art alive in young people. If I can influence someone now, that influence may carry well beyond into future generations and I will have made the world just a little better.
I love sculpture and work frequently in ceramics, cast metals, black-smithing iron and wood with a long standing commitment to making art and learning new styles and techniques. I studied ceramics in High School but did not develop a passion for it until studying at Kennesaw State University. My love for working metal grew under the tutelage of Master Bladesmiths; Jim Hrisoulas and Tony Lemon, Master Armorer; Luke Apker, and a Farrier/Blacksmith; Daniel Sheid. I actively search for anyone that can further my knowledge and am not shy about asking for instruction. To that end I have learned techniques from many in the trade but these four had the most long-term impact on my training. Woodworking came naturally to me and it was many years before I sought out any real training in that respect. The training I received in woodworking served to refine my skills and improve the finished product but the creative drive when working wood has always been part of me.
In 1998 I received an Associate of Arts at Platt College in Los Angeles, CA in Graphic Design. I began working in my first professional studio job about eights months before graduating. I am a current student working on my Bachelor of Science at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA in Art Education.
I exhibit in California and Georgia group shows and art competitions as often as possible. I am constantly on the look out for the next opportunity to display my work. I have worked in the Graphics industry for twelve years both as an artist in studio and as a business owner. While working as a studio artist it was my pleasure to work with such major clients as Claes Oldenburg, Warner Brothers, Disney, Universal Studios, Peter Carlson & Company, and Pfizer just to name a few. Working for these clients I was involved in the creation of pieces for 'Typewriter Eraser' by Oldenburg, the 'Buzz Lightyear' ride at Disney World, the complete graphic redesign of the Universal Studios Tram System, props for the video to 'I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing' from Aerosmith and multiple props and posters for Disney, Universal and Warner Brothers films. As the owner of Closer to the Heart in Lancaster, CA I produced art and graphic works for private collections and public use until 2003 when I relocated my family to Acworth, GA. While the scale of work was somewhat smaller as owner of Closer to the Heart the passion for the work was even more intense as every piece was personal.
