Artist Statement:
I have always been passionate about creativity and I’ve always enjoyed the creative aspects of every area of life. Although I’m a bit of a planning and organizing fanatic, when I am creating art I have no agenda and no “to do” list. During these times, which I refer to as my “Creative Sessions”, I embrace the spontaneity of following my inner spirit and allowing her to guide me. Music stimulates me and is a major part of my “Creative Sessions”. As I am also a Mobile DJ, I have a large and diverse music collection to select from. I dare not stand or sit before my easel until I set a vibe - and music waves are in the air. There’s something about the rhythms, motion and colour of music that enhances my flow when I’m painting. No matter the subject of my art, I focus on using colour, texture and composition to create thought provoking artwork that stimulates the human senses and emotions. I have an affinity for creating Abstract Art because it promotes freedom of form and expression. My paintings challenge you to decide what they are, who they are and how they speak ...

| Your Personal Biography |
Darlene F. Rollins artistically known as Darlene F. is one of Brooklyn’s newest inspirations in the world of Visual Arts.
Darlene was born in Providence, Rhode Island and is a graduate of the Hope High School Arts Magnet program. The arts program was created to cultivate a student’s natural artistic talents through the exploration of numerous art genres and mediums.
While in this program, Darlene developed a special interest in lettering, portraiture and still life work however her greatest joy was expressing her creative energy using various techniques.
Post high school, Darlene earned a B.A. in Computer Information Systems from Howard University which led to a 10- year creative arts hiatus.
Darlene rekindled her artistic talents when she began creating abstract paintings using acrylic paint on canvas. Her freshman collection portrays her expression of freedom of form using vibrant swirls, splashes and spatters of color dancing rhythmically across the canvas.
Works from this collection (which she calls her “Swirl, Splash and all that Jazz” collection) were exhibited at The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition’s 2007 summer and fall exhibits. It was at the summer exhibit that the painting “Flame” was sold, marking Darlene’s first art sale. Darlene has since created additional collections and she has sold work from those collections as well.
Darlene’s online gallery and portfolio can be viewed at www.artbydarlenef.com.
