DENISE DUFRESNE
Denise “Dede” Dufresne is a recent arrival to the Fredericktown area who grew up in Upper Arlington, Ohio. Art and music has infused every step of her life. Although she also paints with pastels, Dede's principal medium is overglaze on porcelain. Dede is an active member of the Ohio Plein Air Society where she is incorporating her overglaze on porcelain techniques to this live, open air format.
Although not always immediately discernible to the observer of her finished work, porcelain is her canvas. Presented as a conventional painting it hides the complexity of the processes involved in the creation of each work. The use of light breathes life and meaning into her subjects. The overglaze paints, composed of finely ground glass and minerals, are layered and fired into multiple layers that integrate with the porcelain surface.
Dede has studied at Ohio State University and at Columbus College of Art and Design. Her commercial projects include large scale acrylic murals, watercolors, and porcelain art. Her latest works are available through North Main Gallery in Mount Vernon and her own website;
http://overglaze-on-porcelain.com.
She resides with her husband, Don, of 26 years in a 19th century one-room schoolhouse near Fredericktown, the former Caywood School, which they are currently renovating. |
