Artist Statement:
The inspiration of my work
comes from my love to travel
and explore nature. During my
travels, or perhaps because of
them, I have explored many
facets of my artistic style
and subject matter. I first
began to utilize oil paints
after inspiration born in a
dream, and the subject of my
art changed to include
landscapes. My paintings
reflect the feelings I
experience of being lost in
nature and a break from the
stress of other aspects of my
life. These landscapes
illustrate a close up view to
share my joy and love of the
environment. The beauty of
nature inspires me and I am
moved to paint the vibrant
colors of fall, old barns, a
California sunset, or a
waterfall in Alabama. My love
of being outdoors has
transpired into art that
mimics the beauty in the
natural world. I discover
more of myself as I continue
to paint, regardless of the
subject matter.

| Your Personal Biography |
Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Denys Katz Harvell has lived in a great many locals throughout the South for the last 14 years. Through her parent’s desire to expose her to many locations, she developed a unique appreciation of travel. It is through these travels and her love of nature that she finds inspiration for her brightly colored landscapes. Encouraged by her artistic family, (her mother interested in handmade crafts, her father a draftsman and her brother a writer) she found individual creativity. Denys’ family has always supported her and been a great influence to her.
In 1996, she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Art Education from the University of Montevallo. Since graduating, she has lived in Florida, Tennessee and currently resides in Georgia. An inspirational teacher led her down an artistic path and motivated her to teach art. She primarily uses oil paints on canvas but has experimented with other media as well.
