Artist Statement:
I have always been interested in how light, atmosphere, and color- these almost spiritual phenomena around us, define visually the object in our space. What I believe is most marvelous about paint is its “creative” behavior- thin, finely blended strokes slowly "rematerialize" its subject on the canvas, while gestural, thick, solid paint celebrates the materiality of the paint and canvas itself. At some point, these works are abstracted just right, to represent not the surface of things, but a feeling- that lonesome fascination with, for instance, strange new buildings in an unfamiliar location- you turn your head to see them, but the lone memory that lingers is the most compelling one. I experience these sublime emotions as the visual information of a landscape, figure, or architecture completes its mental voyage in the form of paint on a surface....

Jeremy Rabus received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2004. He is a full-time artist, who works and lives in the artistic bedroom town of Edwardsville, Illinois. He is inspired by nature, his active way of living, and the soul-healing properties of light and color. Jeremy exhibits frequently, his art exhibited in galleries locally and nationally. He has won several awards for his fascinating paintings including the Edwardsville Friends of Art Award in Painting and the Rosemarie Sacchi Award. |
