Artist Statement:
I believe an artist should play many important roles within society. Importantly, but not limited to: being a mirror; a sounding board; an idealist; a rebel, an activist and a non-comformist - if need be. I try to address social, political and economic issues in my artwork by focusing on national and international events as they influence and affect our human condition, social conscience/sense of justice and society's fabric in general. Utilizing to varying degrees realism, symbolism, allegory and metaphor in my work. Sometimes, I incorporate pop culture references into my paintings to emphasize a point. Sarcasim, irony and blunt humor can also be present. I have been highly influenced by the work of artists, such as: Francesco Goya, Honore Daumier, Eduaret Manet and Theodore Gericault. ...

Have always been very visually oriented. Since I can remember was always drawing and painting to express myself. Came naturally - it's what I love. |

| Your Personal Biography |
I graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design with a BFA in fine art; and from Ryerson Polytechnic University (Toronto) with a BAA in Photographic Arts (Motion Picture Option). I am in the emerging stage of my career. I prefer working in watercolor, because I am allergic to other mediums. Watercolor can be tricky, but I paint it, as if it was oil paint, preferring control over the medium instead of complete randomness. My first solo exhibition as a professional was held at St.FX University Art Gallery in Antigonish, Nova Scotia between June 7 to July 7, 2010. It was a tremendous experience and I met so many supportive and amazing people! I am looking forward to my next exhibition. My work is growing in technical complexity and scope continually. I am currently beginning work on a series of 4 paintings and one very large triptych. |
