Artist Statement
Diane Arrieta
I draw obese children and
print it out on cheeseburger
wrappers; do portraits of
convicted sex offenders that
live in the neighborhood where
the work is shown and have
installations about mother’s
who kill their children.
Why? I like to violate
people’s expectations of what
they will be seeing, about
what art should be. The world
is not always pretty and
people are not very aware of
their surroundings. Deviant
social behavior fascinates me
and I am not afraid to
investigate uncomfortable
topics.
How? My preferred medium is
currently sculpture. This is a
change from the past few years
where I have been doing mostly
illustration. The new works
will incorporate both, plus
video....
