Artist Statement:
Diane explores the outer limits of our earthly existence by looking upwards to the heavens. She captures the awesome power of clouds building, swirling and threatening to unleash their pent up energies on the frail human structures clinging to a thin veneer of land below.
The land is an abstract footnote to the paintings; overwhelmed by the size and scope of the skies. The human structures, in turn, are clinging tentatively to the lower edge of the paintings, leaving the impression that they could be sucked up into the maelstrom that is developing overhead in the clouds. The clouds draw our attention into their dark centers where raw power and energy is offset by whimsical wisps of sunlit vapor away from the stormy center. An attempt to capture local color is merely the examination of light differences depending on one's toehold on earth....
