Artist Statement:
Currently, my work is comprised of portraiture and figurative works taken from life. I incorporate my artwork in my daily activites: going to Starbucks in the morning, visiting a doctors office, heading out to DMV or simply picking up some groceries. I often travel out as far as Poolesville for a gallon of milk -- knowing that I can find new faces, new landscapes, etc., that are not to be found at the local grocery store in Bethesda.
Because I draw from life, my subjects are usually not aware of being re-presented. They move, they wiggle, they get blocked by other people or the simply leave within moments after I have begun. Consequently, all of this work is completed rapidly. I sometimes have to borrow a nearby nose or other body part to finish my work --making the occassional portrait somewhat chimeric.
