Artist Statement:
As an artist, I wonder often what my purpose is in this world, whether my profession is really something needed. When I was younger it never occurred to me to become an artist, it wasn’t something I just decided; it was something I was born with. My hands, my dreams, my thoughts were always moving me towards drawing and painting; it was reflexive. People around me seemed to always be appreciative of my artwork and something about it made them happy. Thinking about those moments of appreciation I can truly feel like I do have a purpose and that thought allows me to create....

| Your Personal Biography |
Danuta K Frydrych was born in Poland and at the early age of ten she knew that she would grow up to become an artist. In 1984, she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw where she studied in the Departments of Painting, Sculpting and Graphics. There, she received a MFA in sculpting. She was offered a teaching position after graduating but wanted to travel instead. In 1985, she moved to the U.S and had a chance to work with the great Arizona artist, Jim Branscum as an assistant for some of his projects. After a year of living in the U.S, she decided to move back to Europe and spent three years living in Germany working as an artist for several private collectors as well as, exhibiting her work in various galleries. Danuta was determined to find a place to nourish her artistic spirit and believed that she might find creative inspiration in Canada. She found what she was looking for in Winnipeg. She was greatly welcomed by the artistic scene there and admired the artists’ movement which influenced her to join the CARFAC organization. Although she enjoyed living in Winnipeg, she could never quite get used to the cold weather so, she moved to Vancouver where she presently resides. She is currently working as a sculptor for the International Alliance for Theatrical Stage Employees (I.A.T.S.E) and is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.
Danuta has always enjoyed working with many mediums and experimenting with unusual and unpredictable ones. She continues to look for novel ways of creating art and expanding her knowledge. |
