| Your Personal Biography |
Adriana Woll (* 1972, São Paulo) is an observer. She collects her ideas while travelling through the world and tries
to visualize the stories behind the images. Since she graduaded from Panamericana Artschool of São Paulo, she`s been
exploring diverse styles and techniques, in order to express the results of her reflections, in the best possible manner.
This doesn`t mean that this facilitates the perception of the public, since the topics of the pictures lie hidden behind
curves and colors, as if the reality was wearing a make-up.
It concerns thereby a half-open obvious manipulation, since the titles offer a possibility to the spectator of seeing and
understanding the work. Called "re-tropicalismo", this style refers both to the 60's art movement and to its development
in 21st century.
The choice of the material, either canvas, paper or plexiglass, is just as important as the definitin of the colors,
to lead with the attempt the viewer on a wrong track. If the figures do not refer directly to the artistic message, the
titles don't leave any doubts. The contrast, which develops between the comfort when seeing the artwork (the joy
and the naivity), and indisposition during the reading of the titles (the soberness and cruelty), forms the
starting point, which leads to an analysis and reflection on the globalized world, in the great urban centers.
The problems, the contrasts and challenges are those everywhere the same, either in Sao Paulo, Paris or Tokio. The social
injustice, the moral decay and the political crisis, are common places for spectators from the entire world, which
recognizes himself and its environment, in the workmanships.
Thus it obtains to identify itself with subjects that are typically Brazilian only at first sight. At the same
time the works are capable to please aesthetic and to convince intellectually; they represent, thus, a challenge.
In this way, the work of Adriana Woll is the exercise to unify the contrasts, forming a singular style, with a large
visual identification. She creates her own language, unmistakable, critically andFUL, without losing their individuality,
which turns out strongly and originally. |
