Artist Statement for L. Lee

Laurie Lee
American Artist & Author
Through her artistic interpretations, L. Lee employs versatility to visually convey the rhythms of our existence. The signature of her work is utilizing various styles and mediums, an approach dictated by her eclectic nature in order to breathe life into her work. Not one to conform, she feels routine and restriction lead to complacency which ultimately stifles the spirit; an important
element of her work. Whether her translations are conventional, avant-garde or shaded with feminism, they’re always spontaneous with a spiritual edge that elicits a universal connection.
Her formal training includes Paier School of Art, Northwestern, Hartford College for Women and private study. Her portfolio includes collector and commissioned works by both private and public sectors. Throughout her career she has participated in many exhibits, one of which was privately held for former United States Vice President and Mrs. Al Gore, while he held office. Her achievements include implementing and teaching a college art program, charitable auctions, owning and operating a retail art studio and publishing a book and screenplay.
Inquiries for commissioned works including portraits (from photos) and Trompe L’oeil are welcome.

“As a child I was so content to sit next to my grandmother and watch her draw. I intrinsically knew that each stroke held more substance than my vision allowed. Words became an empty space as I was captivated at the freedom it presented. Ironically, her father was blind and so, like her, I learned to appreciate the gift of
sight and to listen with my eyes.” ~~~L. Lee
