Artist Statement:
I've been painting and teaching decorative painting for over 10 years; having spent most of my life in the pursuit of artistic expression, doing and teaching everything from quilting and doll making to French hand sewing and sculpting. It’s been my experience that each of these pursuits eventually overlaps into the next. Working with textiles was just another palette using my sense of color, balance and form. Where previously I worked with wood, clay and fabric, now I work with brushes and paints (sometimes even on wood, clay and fabric).
Having a strong commitment to the environment, I try only to use non-toxic materials and firmly believe in recycling. Therefore, my "canvas" became items that would otherwise be discarded. In the past I’ve rescued, reclaimed and recycled numerous items by turning them into objects d’art never having it occur to me to paint on actual canvas. However, my dear friend, Jane, suggested that I actually put some of my flowers on canvas and the result came as a total surprise to me. Welcome to Arline Schwarz's Portfolio.
