Artist Statement for Eileen Kane

|
As a professional artist, I focus primarily on the moving figure. I'm intrigued by the beauty and vitality of the human form in action and in interactions with others.
I try to render the gesture of three-dimensional motion by playing with figure/ground relations in my 2D work.
I've worked with dancing figures created in water-based mixed media on both paper and canvas. Most recently, I've been making ink "gestures", using an ink
dropper to suggest the quick motion. I add watercolors to some of these to
develop the composition and mood through colors.
In addition, I create 3D figures, with wires of different gauges and hues as well as found objects including seaweed and shells. These 3D works are either suspended or built upon wire supports.
Most recently I have been refining and "abstracting" both the figure and the movement.
The results have been small/large acrylic abstracts as well as the ink drawings shown here.
