Artist Statement:
I have become more aware of earth's beauty in many ways since I began to record it in art. It is a great privilege to be an artist and go on quests for the ultimate landscape or seascape. Studying nature on location is the ideal moment to both blend with it's spirituality and receive inspiration for a painting. I put all of my soul and nature's soul into the canvas with each creation. Many years of learning the fundamentals of art are transformed into new birth each time a painting is begun. I hope to be able to continually learn how to convey the essence of nature in my artistic creations. The canvas, oil paints and brushes are my tools, my mind and heart are the impetus, nature is the provider of visual and emotional subject matter. Appealing art is the end result. You are the beneficiary of not only a piece of art, but a work that goes deeply beyond the oil on the canvas. ...

| Your Personal Biography |
Although you may recognize the name Esther Williams as a famous movie star and swimmer, this Esther is an exceptional artist in her own right. Esther’s involvement in art has spanned over 50 years since her birth in 1955. Her art has been in countless juried exhibitions and has won numerous awards. She focused on art throughout her early educational years, by drawing with just any medium constantly. It paid off when she was eight years old, she designed a poster for a Calif. Department of Motor Vehicles contest and it won her first place statewide and $50.00. Also at the same age, she drew an illustration from an art school magazine advertisement and submitted it . The art school sent another booklet for her to draw more illustrations and she sent that back. No one knew her age, but a representative showed up on her doorstep one day to meet her in hopes to sign her up to their college, but were shocked when an eight year old came to the door. She was told she had to wait until she was eighteen with her proud parents listening. By then her heart was set on art. During her time living in the fabled Napa, CA from six-sixteen years old she was mostly found painting landscapes, flowers or drawing horses in the wine country. In the same era, Esther’s love of the sea arose from her frequent family trips to Bodega Bay, CA where she sketched while riding in the car watching the countryside pass by. In 1971, her move to Binghamton, New York gained her artful knowledge on trips to museums into NYC. and also Washington, DC . While in her senior year of high school in NY, she was offered a scholarship to the Calif. College of Arts at Oakland, thanks to her art teacher who believed in her. But, she decided to marry and start a family, although art never left her. She had two sons. After a failed marriage in 1978, her formal studies in art were conducted at Tompkins Cortland-Community College in Dryden, New York where she studied both architectural design and fine art. She studied art at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, also fashion design at The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, CA. Though Esther diverted from the mainstream to be in the country where she studied nature. It is from being spiritually connected with nature that she derives her inspiration and energy to paint beautiful works of art. Her sense of adventure propels her to take many painting excursions to art inspiring locations. Currently, she studies the Old Masters of art and visits major museum collections to further her knowledge. Now that she is in a number of plein air art associations, she has accelerated her awareness of the plein air style by continuing to paint amongst modern signature and experienced artists. She has a husband and two daughters now. She paints in her home studio in Laguna Niguel, CA also, so she can pay tribute to the old impressionism style. She still returns to Napa to paint as the love of the wine country is deeply instilled into her. You will also find her at the ocean being at one with the sea. Her work is currently in Gallery 104 and the San Clemente Art Gallery in San Clemente, CA. Affiliations are the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association , San Clemente Art Association and Southern CA Plein Air Painters. She has no relation to either Esther Williams the swimmer or Esther Baldwin Williams the impressionist from earlier days. |
