Biggest Artistic Inspiration When I first picked up a brush. For many years I had tried different art forms, progressing from one to another, enjoying the experience but never falling in love with any. Painting has changed my life, now I can give life to the thousands of ideas that roam my mind.

Why Did You Become An Artist Expression and creation. Both these ingredients led me to a career as a chef, working in many restaurants and also owning one. During that period of life I built our house, restored two wooden boats, made jewellery, dabbled in the clothing industry, and had a catering business among other things. Art has always flowed through my soul, but painting has become my life.

Your Personal Biography Born in Brisbane, Australia, in 1950, Gary was instantly attracted to the arts from a very young age.
Beginning his art studies at St Paul’s College, he moved from Brisbane to Sydney to broaden his knowledge, studying life-drawing classes at Potts Point Studio, and the same time pursuing a career as a chef. He became disenchanted with the teachings of the arts at the time and as a consequence decided to educate himself through the readings, practice, application and theory of his mentors Gauguin, Rembrandt, Bacon and Picasso.
Gary has been painting full time for the last 20 years, and is not interested in creating images that pertain to a certain decor; he believes that art reflects our innermost desires and fears, and most of all our need to be excited by the new; pushing our thoughts and imagination to the far reaches.
The ingredients that make these compositions work so well, are challenging, provocative and at times sensual. Gary hopes that his work awakens and nourishes the viewer; he sees his work as a ‘feast for the eyes and for the soul.’ These are not one-look paintings that leave the viewer empty once the snack has been digested.
Symbolic images are used in the works, either sublime or profound. Most work are executed to explain a story as such, the use of symbols carry many questions that Gary uses to open our thoughts, enquire and challenge, wether it be on an artistic or a social level.
