George Molstad
The fine arts career began following art school and several successful years of commercial art in Los Angeles and Denver CO.
Career Highlights
The Black Hills of South Dakota:
o Joined local art groups and participated in local shows and regional shows -awarded many prizes and ribbons.
o Favorite subject matter was Wildlife, Badlands and people.
o Collected many Show ribbons and was chosen Guest Artist for many University and private competitions.
o Dean Krakel, retired Director of the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, became Director of the High Planes Heritage Museum in Spearfish SD and inaugurated the themed Prix Dakota Western Drawing Shows.
o Invited to participate along with all the Cowboy, Western and Wildlife painters with whom Mr. Krakel had worked at the Hall of Fame.
o First year theme: Battle of Little Big Horn - awarded the third place prize.
o Second year theme: Battle of Wounded Knee - awarded first place prize.
o Illustrated animals, bird and snakes for tourist facilities: including outdoor billboards for the famous Reptile Gardens
o Designed books and a gestalt traveling exhibition for the U.S. Forestry Service.
o Designed books layouts and developed advertising campaigns for local industry.
