Artist Statement:
Interest in the human figure was present in my creativity from the very beginning. Lately, it became limited to just a portrait&<8211; with special focus on a woman&<8217;s image and the commercial role of the female face.
Most of my inspiration comes from TV and computer screens, the world of technology, visual information and fashion. At first sight &<8220;beautiful&<8221; and &<8220;happy&<8221; images seem to predominate in my paintings. After closer contemplation, they reveal a more cynical and artificial side. I am fascinated by the way faces and their expressions are being stylized in advertisement: subconscious (or conscious) poses of sexual and spiritual ecstasy, resemble those from baroque masterpieces. Except that in our deeply commercialized reality, the human face is just another product.
I experiment with different painting techniques, mediums, styles and use cut outs, signs and typography to achieve a bold, layered, &<8220;pop cultured&<8221;, sometimes chaotic and distorted effect. I hope to find artistic means of expression that reflect modern, fast pacing visual representation.
