Artist Statement:
"Art is an integral part of my life which reveals itself in many forms and media. I enjoy creating many forms of visual art, using a variety of media: oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, pen and inks, silverpoint, and enjoy doing photography, music, creative writing, journalism and poetry. My subject matter is not limited. Art reflects my life...perhaps it IS my life. I find inspiration everywhere--in nature, in people's faces, in design, dreams, visions, thoughts and in the spirit. My conception of Paradise is that it will be a place where artists will be free to do art without limit. Art is my way of getting closer to the Creator."

| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
There are so many inspirational things in life. I honestly believe that beauty and conflict, love, sadness, peace, injustice, and every other human emotion and situation can stir an artist to create. The important thing is to overcome artist block, to rid oneself of fear of failure or great expectations, and to set aside time to work. It is in the process that we are artists. |

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I think it was not a choice, but part of my soul. I began drawing when I was four years old. It seemed like the natural thing to do and perhaps because I received so much positive feedback about my ability, I pursued it. Art is a way of making a statement and getting feelings and reverence out. I would do art if it was unappreciated and unnoticed. I have been fortunate in receiving great, consistent, positive attention for it. It means so much when someone sees an artwork I have done and connects personally with it. When my art brings an association or remembrance, sometimes even tears to a viewer, it means a great deal to me. We are all in the same boat, as an artist friend of mine, Allen Sugar, once said. We are in the family of man, we are children of the Universe, created by the same Creator, each with a gift and a right to be here. When someone tells me they envy my talent, I tell them everyone has a talent and a gift to give to humanity. For some it is compassion which can be fruitful as nursing and other careers, some are great teachers, the list of gifts is endless. Just being a nice person with ethics is a gift. I do not know if what I am doing with my art will make a difference in the world or not. I would hope it is making things better, helping to create a more peaceful world. The world is so in need of peace and freedom. Everyday I pray for that, for everyone. |

| Your Personal Biography |
Barnes' first exhibition was at the elementary school at the
age of seven years. She was given a large space to display
her artwork in the hallway showcase. At the recommendation
of teachers, Kathryn was sent to art school by her parents,
and studied at the art school of the South Bend Art Center.
'I received excellent instruction, and was advanced to adult
classes at the age of 12, when I began oil painting,
learning the techniques of the old masters.' Barnes states.
Paintings of the young artist were exhibited at this time in
the South Bend Art Center gallery with later exhibitions
there also. Barnes also studied art in high school and in
college. Living in art colonies, she painted and learned
from other living artists, exhibiting in art fairs since
1971, beginning with the first art fair in Crested Butte,
Colorado. Presently, Barnes exhibits through the art guild
and several galleries. Barnes website at www.kathrynbarnes.com.
Recently Barnes won 2 art awards.
